What Is a Columbus Military Move?
When it comes to the types of military moves, there are three main ones: a Permanent Change Of Station (PCS), a Personally Procured Moves (PPM), and then the third is a combination of the two. Now, let’s break the PCS and PPM down a little bit more so you can be prepared for your Columbus military move.
PCS Move
A PCS move is when a service member relocates to a new base that is minimally 50 miles away, and this type of move is when you get orders from the government. Since you don’t have a choice but to relocate, the government is required to pay for your moving expenses. It is essential to note that there is a weight cut-off, so if you go above it, you will have to pay the difference. Make sure to verify the covered weight with your current duty station before the day of the move. You will work with government-contracted PCS movers and often will have a longer wait time to receive your items.Â
Safety: Keep your employees safe and injury-free
For PPM moves, you have to move all by yourself, but this does let you choose the moving company you want to use. As professional PPM movers, our crew members are here to handle the details for you and answer any questions you have along the way.Â
Â
As we mentioned above, if you want to do a combination of a PCS and a PPM move, you have this option as well.
Cost of a Military Move
The cost of Columbus military moving services is different for everyone. While you might have to pay for a relocation upfront, the government will pay for your Columbus military move. Here is the list of 10 reimbursement programs through the Department of Defense:Â
Dislocation Allowance (DLA)
A DLA can get used for miscellaneous expenses that occur during the relocation and can get received once for each PCS move.Â
Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA)
TLA gets provided to help offset expenses that go towards meals and temporary housing while you wait for your lodging.Â
Temporary Lodging Expense (TLE)
TLE gives a partial reimbursement of temporary housing and meals to relocating service members and their families.Â
Monetary Allowance In Lieu Of Transportation (MALT)
MALT is the money that’s paid to you when driving to the new base. It’s given based on the “official distance” from your current base and your new duty station and gets paid at a rate of $0.16 per mile. If it’s authorized ahead of time, the military will sometimes allow two vehicles to get driven, which increases the pay rate to $0.18 per mile.Â
Move-In Housing Allowance (MIHA)
If you’re getting stationed overseas, MIHA reimburses you and your family for the costs of having to live in a house off-base. There are three things that it covers: any initial costs that are necessary to make the home livable, adding a security system, and expenses that are related to one-time rent.Â
Per Diem Allowance
A Per Diem Allowance is the money paid to you and your family to cover hotels and meals while driving to your new base. You are required to travel a minimum of 350 miles per day. The government figures out the number of days it will take by dividing the miles by 350, and they pay you for that number of days. If the last day is more than 51 miles away, you will be granted an extra driving day, even if it’s less than 350.Â
Advance Basic Pay
An Advance Basic Pay is seen as an “interest-free loan” by service members when changing stations. You can only withdraw up to three months of your pay, and you will need to start paying it back the next month.Â
Advance BAH
Each branch of the armed forces has different policies when it comes to Advance BAH, which will defray the costs of relocating into housing off of the base. And you will need to get pre-approval from your Commanding Officer before you try and use this benefit.Â
Advance Overseas Housing Allowance (OHA)
An Advance OHA helps to cover the extra costs of renting a home overseas that isn’t covered by the BAH.Â
What Will Columbus Military Movers Not Pack
